Govt. Considering Shut Down of CMB BIA

The government is reportedly considering the temporary closure of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

This is considered as a measure to restrict the entry of COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, into the country.

Previously, the Jaffna International Airport (JIA) was shut down for two weeks.

Sri Lanka has diagnosed a total of 34 positive coronavirus cases within 6 days. The first Sri Lankan coronavirus patient in the country was identified on March 11.

The government has taken a number of precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus in the country, including a special public holiday from March 17 to 19, which was declared midnight yesterday. This three-day holiday was also made also applicable to the private sector.
